The Lebanese Mediation Center (LMC)
The Lebanese Mediation Center has been established in 2012 through a cooperation agreement signed between the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon and the International Finance Corporation, an international organization member of the World Bank Group, for the development and promotion of commercial mediation in Lebanon.
Mediation is an Alternative Dispute Resolution process that helps the business community settle commercial disputes without resorting to long and expensive judicial process. Mediation has indeed many advantages:
•Fast, Informal and flexible
•Cost effective
•Controlled by parties
•Parallel to litigation or arbitration
•Maintains business relationships
•Varies settlement options
The LMC offers its services to the business community, private clients and the public sector. Its mission covers training and accreditation of mediators, conducting commercial mediation cases and raising awareness on the benefits of mediation.
The LMC, in particular, oversees the mediation process and is responsible for:
•Appointing mediators
•Offering LMC facilities
•Preparing the mediation agreement
•Coordinating the mediation logistics
