Chamber of Beirut & Mount Lebanon within the EBSOMED Sector Alliance Committee of Logistics & Transport organized by ASCAME at SIAL 2019, Barcelona
In the framework of the EBSOMED Project, the first Sector Alliance Committee of Logistics & Transport, organized by ASCAME and its affiliates, took place on June 26 and 27 in Barcelona, Spain. The event was held in the occasion of the 17th Mediterranean Logistics and Transport Summit which brought together the key private and public actors from European and Mediterranean countries, to discuss the key priority and niche sectors which can add immediate value to regional economy.
Mr. Rabih Sabra, Director General of the Chamber of Beirut and Mount Lebanon, took part in this event along with a Lebanese delegation including Mr. Elie Zakhour, Chairman of the International Chamber of Navigation, Mr. Fady Darwich, Managing Partner of SETS and Mr. Rami Samman Managing Partner of TMS Consult.
Mr. Sabra intervened in the panel “Policy Meets Implementation: capitalisation of initiatives, projects and programs working on the Transport & Logistics sector” where he pointed out that the logistics sector in Lebanon is one of the main conduits of international trade and a major pillar of the industrial sector. He added that this sector plays the role of catalyst for the economic activity and growth and contributes extensively to job creation in the country. Sabra shed lights on the main characteristics of maritime, air and land transport in Lebanon with specific focus on the chamber contribution in transport and logistics EU funded programs through the ENPI project OPTIMED. He insisted on the necessity of advocating for new policies and agreements that would reinforce the cooperation and integration between North-South countries. Mr Sabra also involved the Lebanese delegation members in the panel discussions where they gave their insights on building a stronger and more competitive Mediterranean transport and logistics sector.
