IRU roundtable on TIR system at CCIA-BML
On November 27th the Chamber of Beirut and Mount Lebanon (CCIA-BML) and the International Transport Union (IRU) organized a round table workshop on the role of the TIR system (Transports Internationaux Routiers) in facilitating trade and mobility of goods between Lebanon, the regional and international destinations. The round table was held in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Choucair Chairman of CCIA-BML, Mr. Umberto de Pretto IRU Secretary General, Dr. Badr Yarob Regional Advisor of transport and logistics at ESCWA, Dr. Khaled Hanafi UAC Secretary General, Mrs. Alia Abbas MOET DG, Mr. Rabih Sabra CCIA-BML DG, Mr. Rani Wehbe IRU Senior Adviser for the Middle East, representatives from the Customs authorities, concerned member companies and transport syndicates. It is worth mentioning that the Chamber of Beirut and Mount Lebanon is in charge of issuing and guaranteeing TIR Carnets in Lebanon since the year 2000.
During the workshop, interventions and presentations tackled issues in relation to the TIR system in Lebanon and the region, its benefits in facilitating the flows of goods and enhancing economic development, its challenges at the border operations and the related major developments and updates.
The conclusions of the round table included the needed future actions to be taken in coordination between the CCIA-BML and public authorities in order to facilitate the flow of goods for companies holding the TIR carnets. The workshop was followed by a lunch offered by the CCIA-BML
